Straight teeth: Are there options beyond braces?
For many adults, one of their biggest regrets is not getting their teeth straightened when they were younger. They come to us realising that their desire for straight teeth has never gone away and wonder what they’re options are.
If that sounds familiar, you may be wondering if there is anything you can do to have a straighter smile? Some adults are as resistant to the idea of braces now as they were in their teenage years and feel self-conscious about the prospect of wearing braces. But are there other options to straighten your teeth?
Teeth whitening
Although teeth whitening obviously won’t move your teeth in any way, most people find that just by lightening their teeth by several shades – ideally so they match the whites of their eyes – it can create the illusion of straighter, healthier teeth. Teeth whitening can minimise shadows that emphasis alignment issues and give your smile a fantastic boost.
Dental veneers
As we covered in a recent blog, dental veneers can be an effective and almost immediate way to create a straighter smile. It’s important to realise that veneers may only be suitable for mild spacing or alignment issues.
Clear braces
These days, there are a wide range of invisible adult brace systems designed to combine the benefits of traditional metal braces with a desire for a discreet orthodontic treatment. These systems tend to use tooth-coloured wires and clear brackets. There are fast-working systems such as Six Month Smiles and systems that can tackle more complex cases, such as Damon Clear braces.
Removable aligners
If you don’t like the thought of wearing a fixed brace to straighten your teeth, you may want to consider clear removable aligners. Here at Blossom Dental Care & Implant Studio, we work extensively with Invisalign. Invisalign treatment uses a series of clear, removable aligners to apply gentle forces that gradually move your teeth into alignment. The results with Invisalign are comparable to traditional fixed braces, but treatment lengths tend to be slightly shorter. We can plot how your teeth will move and show you the predicted outcome of your treatment before it even begins.
Invisalign is a popular option because you can take the aligners out to eat, drink or brush your teeth as normal, which means keeping your oral health in tip-top condition during your treatment is straightforward.
These aligners are comfortable, bespoke to you and, perhaps most importantly, completely invisible. If you want straight teeth with treatment that goes under the radar, Invisalign is it.
