How To Use Invisalign Cleaning Crystals
So you’ve got your Invisalign sorted – how do you keep it clean? Well, luckily, it’s pretty easy to do so. In this post, our private dentists here in York will talk through the process step by step, and will also throw in some advice on looking after your Invisalign braces in general. Read on to find out more…
Using the crystals
Invisalign produce its own cleaning crystals, which are highly effective at cleaning your Invisalign braces. They come in dosed sachets, so you know exactly how much to use. They’re also handy for travelling with, as you won’t need to pack a huge tub of crystals. Here’s how to use them.
Step 1 – rinse your Invisalign under warm water
Step 2 – place the aligner(s) in a glass (or the Invisalign tub), then fill it with enough water to cover
Step 3 – empty a packet of cleaning crystals into the water
Step 4 – leave for 15 minutes
Step 5 – remove and rinse the aligner(s) under warm water
Step 6 – use a soft toothbrush to dislodge any leftover crystals or food particles
Step 7 – give the aligner(s) a final rinse, then they’re ready to wear!
Cleaning crystal alternatives
The only other cleaner you can use on your Invisalign braces is denture cleaner. That’s because most other solutions (including toothpaste and mouthwash) are too harsh, and could cause staining or damage to the aligners.
When to clean
You should rinse your aligners whenever you remove them, and soak them at least every couple of days in the Invisalign cleaning crystals. Don’t forget that it’s a good idea to also clean your teeth if you remove the aligners for any reason. Remember, you must wear your Invisalign braces 20-22 hours per day, as directed by your private dentist.
Storing your aligners
If you remove your Invisalign to eat, teeth clean or for something else, always store them in their case. This helps prevent loss or breakage, either of which could cause delays to your treatment. It’s important to remember that you must never eat while wearing your aligners.
